finds to fancy

Finds to Fancy

Since I haven't been at the thrifts or estate sales much lately, I thought I'd try something new with Finds to Fancy- a little round up of things I'm fancying (that I think you might too) from around the world wide web.

{Via Non Perishable Goods}
We recently decided to use cloth napkins every day and not just for special occasions (my best friend, who has been doing this for years, will be proud). Of course, I'm now a bit obsessed with finding awesome napkins and have a serious crush on these from Non Perishable Goods. They come in a wide variety of great colors- I'm not even sure how I would choose.

{Via Heather Bullard}
A few years back I was introduced to Heather Bullard through Serena of The Farm Chicks. Last summer I had the pleasure of meeting her in person when she stopped by my booth at The Farm Chicks Show. Beyond being a lovely person, she's one of my favorite stylists (you can see her work in Country Living most months), has great taste in vintage, and is a very talented photographer. Her site is one you'll love to follow- even the simplest posts are stunningly beautiful and I'm loving seeing the progress as she designs a new home here in SoCal.

{Via Three Potato Four}
I don't remember how I found Three Potato Four, but I always enjoy browsing their online shop. In addition to a well curated selection of vintage goods, they have a wonderful line of original, new goods- like these arrows.

{Via Andie Powers}
I've saved the best for last. Andie Powers, of Assemble Shop & Studio has teamed up with Go Mighty to offer a very cool online class all about starting a creative small business. The class will equip you to develop a comprehensive plan for your own small business, and one lucky student will win a $500 grant plus a business consultation from Andie! Even better? Andie has graciously offered Gather and Hunt readers a 25% discount! Just enter the code VINTAGE at check out. If you're thinking of starting a creative business this class will get you started out right.

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead of you. I'll be working on a few posts for next week- including a few Cinco de Mayo posts and a little May Day DIY. See you then!

Finds to Fancy

This week has been all about preparing for the soon-to-open Gather and Hunt online shop. Inventory has taken over our home, my afternoons are spent shooting hundreds of photos, and I'm scheming up some cool packaging for all the future orders.

Since my current world is nearly revolving around the shop, and I haven't had time to do any thrifting, I thought I'd share some of my favorite items, from the photo shoots so far, for today's Finds to Fancy.

What have you found lately? I've been missing my weekly trips to estate sales and thrift stores- once the shop opens I'll be able to get back out and I can't hardly wait!

As always, I'd love to see your finds! Tag your photos with #findstofancy on Instagram or Twitter, or post it on the G&H Facebook page.

Finds to Fancy: Vintage Whites Market

Last week I shared a peek at the Vintage Whites Market in Salt Lake City with you, but I didn't share any of my purchases with you. Since I definitely found a few things I fancy there, it seemed fitting to give them a Finds to Fancy post all their own.

Upon discovering this step stool folded, I couldn't get my money out fast enough. I've been looking for an old one for years, but have never found one that folded up as neatly as the modern one I have. Now I have a functional step stool that can also be used as a prop. The stool, as well as this cool military metal drum (which I will likely use for flowers) both came from the charming Ande Monster booth.

After the kindness Cathie from Flea Attitude showed me by lending me shelves to use in the workshop, I knew I wanted to make sure and support her with a purchase. She had loads of amazing things, so it wasn't a hard decision at all.

She had a whole pile of what I think are iron drill bits (if anyone knows for sure what it is, please comment below), and she had even gone to the trouble of sealing them so the rust wasn't rubbing off on everything. I wanted all of them, but restrained myself with just one.

As you may have noticed, I have a small collection of old bottles, and a milk glass collection, but this is my first milk glass bottle. I love the embossed type on it, which reads 'Harriet Hubbard/Ayer/New York N.Y./ USA'. (Harriet Hubbard was apparently the first american woman to have a large cosmetics company).

The brass hose clamp rings in the next photo were also found at Flea Attitude, and as is occasionally the case with me and little old things, I'm not sure what I'll be using them for.

Though I wish I had been able to spend more money on all the wonderful goods Dots & Stripes had in their booth, I love these little photo holders, and Caytlyn was kind enough to gift me the adorable little ampersand too, which I can't wait to add to the new vignette I'm working on that's all about the mister and I.

Jennifer, of Funky Junk, always has an amazing selection of unique items, and really has a knack for finding the coolest industrial things. There were so many things I wish I could have bought from her, but I narrowed it down to this spoon. It's worn just perfectly and will make a good addition to the photo styling prop collection.

My final purchase of the day was this new old stock wooden gas gauge. John, from The Cabinet of Curiosity, had a whole pile of them and told me about how early model cars came with something similar but that since they were wood, they became worn out over time so gas stations would have these available. Since different kinds of cars had different styles of gas tanks, each manufacturer would have a gauge specific to their car. I loved the graphic look of it and think it will fit in nicely with my unusual measuring tools collection (which I still need to install in our new place).

What have you found lately? As always, I'd love to see! Tag me in an Instagram photo (@gatherandhunt), or even better, send me some photos to be featured in a future edition of Finds to Fancy!

Finds to Fancy

I am utterly embarrassed by the tardiness of this Finds to Fancy post. It was supposed to go up last Friday, but life got in the way (as it does), and next thing I know- it's Wednesday already. I hope you'll accept my apologies, and enjoy these finds...

A few weeks ago, I made a visit to the Long Beach Antique Market for the first time. I had heard good things- lower prices, a more manageable size- so I was excited to have a chance to see it for myself. As with most of the flea markets out here there was a good mix of junk and amazingness. A entire booth full of vintage educational charts? Yes please! The prices were too high for this unemployed girl, but it was still amazing to see them all laid out.

I appear to have been drawn to lots of orange chairs that day. Aren't those stools in the middle awesome? The booth they were in had pretty high prices on everything so I didn't even ask about these, but I can dream about them, right?

The Wyoming girl in me just can't get into the idea of paying for antlers (especially shed ones), since you can wander around a field and find them for free (provided you have permission, of course) in my home state, but this booth had a ton of them, and they were selling like hot cakes.

I'm not positive if this was an attendance board, or something to keep track of bible verses, or what, but it definitely caught my eye. Does anyone know what this would have been used for?

It was a pretty light day for me- I could have left the cart in the car really. I was on a mission though- focused on finding some things to include in the tool kits I'm providing to the students who attend my home styling class at The Vintage Whites Market next weekend.

Mission accomplished- old bottles are always an easy addition to any vignette or display, so these were a great find for the tool kits. The vendor I purchased them from was nice and threw in a few extras, since I was buying so many- I always appreciate flea vendors who provide good customer service too.

Amazingly, this is the only thing I purchased for myself. I've been hoping to find a set of enamelware dishes, and this set of 6 was in great shape. Plus, I scored it for a song (her price was so reasonable I didn't even bargain with her). You'll definitely be seeing these in some upcoming photo shoots.

What have you found lately? You know I'd love to see! Take a photo for Instagram and tag me (@gatherandhunt) or email me photos and I'll share them in an upcoming Finds to Fancy.

Finds to Fancy

It has been a long time since I've done a Finds to Fancy! I think that's mostly due to the fact I haven't been doing much hunting lately. However, I did do a little thrifting while I was in Utah awhile back and I hit one estate sale this morning, so I thought I'd share my favorite finds from those outings.

This set of brass candlesticks in varied heights came from a thrift shop in Vegas that I popped into on my way home from Utah. I love that the whole set was still together.

The estate sale I went to earlier today was not a great one, but the lady of the house must have loved Guatemalan weaving- there were wall hangings, fabrics, jackets, tops, and tons of those little zippered coin purses. I spotted this tote at the bottom of a pile in a closet and after discovering it was quite clean and in really good shape decided it'd be fun for a summer bag. It even (almost) matches a long table runner/weaving I had picked up in another room.

This weekend I'm heading to the Long Beach flea market to do some prop shopping for my class at The Vintage Whites Market next month, so hopefully I'll have a good Finds to Fancy for you next week.

What have you found lately? I'd love to see! You can either tag me on Instagram (@gatherandhunt) or send me a photo to share here on a future Finds to Fancy.

Happy weekend! It's 80 degrees here today so we are eating dinner outside- but first I've gotta get the patio table cleaned up. What are your plans? Something fun I hope!

Finds to Fancy

If you follow me on any social media platform you might have noticed yesterday that I'm on the hunt for some new art for our bedroom. In our new place the bedroom has quite a bit more wall space and I edited out some things I had hanging before that didn't really go, so right now we have exactly one piece hanging on the wall- our vintage star chart.

Now that chart is what I styled our whole bedroom around and it's one of my favorite things (you might remember it was the subject of the very first Gratitude post), so I'm taking my cues from it and looking for pieces that compliment it nicely. Since I'm also frequently asked where I found the chart, I thought I'd do a little round up today of celestial themed wall hangings- research for me, inspiration and sources for you.

I'm pretty much obsessed with these pieces from Agent Gallery Chicago. The moon one especially. Love. It. They're not really in our budget, but a girl can dream right? That last one is a set of 25 prints- I may take inspiration from it and gather up some book plates to make my own collection.

{Via}
{Via}
Smaller book plates, like these from Antique Print Store are in abundance on Etsy. Grouped together they may actually make a bigger impact than one of the large charts. At $7-15 each, this is also a much more affordable option.

{Via}
When I first found this pull down style star chart from Gritty City Goods I thought it was vintage and had a minor freak out. Turns out, it's a reproduction, but I still love it and they have a great selection of subject matter, all in the same pull down style.

{Via}
This Illustrated Planets print by The Geekerie is a little outside of the color palette I'm using, but I love the mid-century sci-fi vibe it's got going on.

{Via}
Another non-vintage piece, this constellation map calendar from Little Bright Studio would be a lovely, and useful addition to our walls. It's even on sale right now.

{Via}
While a little spendier, this large format star map from Municipal Prints Company also most closely resembles the vintage star charts used in classrooms in the 30's and 40's (which are nearly impossible to find these days). Rumor has it, the founder of MPC actually started the company after trying in vain to find a star chart like the one in Thomas O'Brien's apartment. I love the square shape and scale of this 36"x36" print and it even comes in both a Northern and Southern sky option.

{Via}
Some of my favorite little details in our bedroom are the 'Goodnight, Moon' pillowcases I found a few years ago from Kinship Press (who I am also a bit obsessed with- that 'Time to get stuff done' mug I'm always Instagraming is from them, and they have an arrows sweatshirt I'm dying to have). Today, while grabbing the link to the pillowcases we have I discovered they have a new pillowcase line- of Zodiac constellations! Now I'm not into astrology, but I adore these and will be asking for them for my birthday.

Which are your favorites here? Have you seen anything I should be considering? I can't quite decide yet, so I think our walls will be bare a little longer, but hopefully soon that star chart will have some friends to hang out with (apologies for the pun).

Do you have any big plans for the weekend? I'll be doing a bunch of last minute prep for Alt Summit (I can't believe I'm leaving on Tuesday- so much to do), and maybe a little mini-golf date with the mister. Happy Friday friends!

finds to fancy

i have to sigh a bit at myself- i keep planning to get back on a regular schedule with blogging, but i never seem to make it happen. this week i started a new, temporary, job and that's made things even worse- i'm definitely out of practice with getting up before 5AM and then working on my feet for full 8 hour days so it's been a rough week (like get-home-and-feel-like-i-can't-move rough). i even tried to use my lunch break to get this post up, but didn't finish it in time and was under the weather last night so i'm sharing this post on a Saturday. okay, enough about that- onto the finds!

last weekend i attended my first California estate sale. i wasn't sure what to expect, especially since i didn't make the effort to get up early and get on a list. i was pleasantly surprised, upon arriving about 20 minutes after the sale had started, to not have to wait in line to get in. i was delighted to find that the items i was hoping to score, which i had seen in the listing photos, were still there waiting for me! it wasn't a big sale so i didn't get much, but the prices weren't too high and i definitely found some things i fancy so overall i'd say it was a great way to kick off estate sale-ing in my new locale!

we'll start with the things i'm keeping for myself...

another rubber office stamp to add to the stamp carousel i picked up from Oh Hello Friend at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.

the cutest hide-a-key box i've ever seen!

and finally- a milk glass cake stand. i've been looking for one just like this for awhile now, but the ones i've found before were either too damaged or too expensive. this one is perfect and i'm so excited to add it to my collection!

now for the things i'll be adding to the g&h inventory (read on to the end to hear some exciting news about the first ever California g&h event)...

if you like what you see, and live in the LA area, i'm happy to announce that you'll be able to purchase g&h goods next weekend at the Oh Hello Friend Holiday Vintage Sale! admission is free, but we'd love to know how many to expect so just click on the link above for all the details and to RSVP. i'll have some more details up next week and Danni will share a post about the sale as well on the Oh Hello Friend blog so check back with both blogs next week! i'm looking forward to meeting new friends and sharing g&h with my new state. oh, and if you know anyone in the LA area who likes vintage i'd be grateful if you'd help spread the word!

happy weekend everyone! i'm off to sort through some Christmas boxes for a few things to add to the sale. i hope you enjoy the day, whatever you may be doing.

finds to fancy

hello everyone! i know, it's been awhile since i've made an appearance around here and i'm working on that- as soon as i finish getting this house all set up i want to get back on the regular blogging schedule.

i hinted at it on Instagram and Facebook on Sunday, and here it is- the Rose Bowl Flea Market edition of finds to fancy!

for the few of you who might not have heard about it, the Rose Bowl Flea Market happens once a month, right here in my new home- Pasadena, CA. it is one of the largest flea markets in the country and you can find everything from vintage and antique items to handmade goods, new items, even plants- pretty much anything you can think of.

i had been eagerly awaiting my chance to check out the market, even before moving here. Saturday night i prepped all my gear, and woke up early on Sunday in order to arrive for the 'express entrance', which gets you in an hour earlier than the normal opening time. the mister dropped me off, i purchased my ticket, and wheeled my cart in, ready to get started.

i had read a number of blog posts about the market previously, and everyone said to head left from the gate if you're looking for vintage. so i headed left...as far left as i could go. once i was at the very edge of the vintage section, i started working the grid of vendors, trying to be as methodical as possible so i didn't miss anything.

now, i've been living in the vintage/thrifting world since i was about 5, and i've been to many a flea market in my day, so i say this with a certain amount of brevity- this market BLEW MY MIND. especially the clothing/accessory/shoe vendors. racks of vintage clothing extending across entire sections. 30 foot sections of nothing but leather purses. piles and piles of shoes. entire 10x30 foot booths full of nothing but belts. i've never seen anything quite like it.

an entire booth of nothing but tee shirts.

just one of the many all-bags booths
knowing that i wouldn't make it all day in the warm California sun (it was in the 90's by noon), i had to decide early on what to focus on. most of the items on my 'shopping list' were things we needed for home, so i made the tough choice to ignore the clothing booths and just concentrate on home goods. (don't worry- i'll be back for a day of just clothing shopping). even having narrowed my focus, there were still an almost overwhelming (in a good way) number of booths to peruse.

i wanted about half of what this vendor had- so many fun industrial things.

i tried to convince this vendor to sell me his umbrella- i even offered to come back at the end of the day so he wouldn't lose his shade. i was unsuccessful. i've also thought of it almost daily since. it would match our 'new' yellow patio set perfectly!

this vendor had nothing but vintage eyewear. i had to restrain myself from going in- i'm such a sucker for vintage sunglasses. really love those turquoise oversized frames in this pic.

just thinking about this booth still makes me sigh- filled with vintage french linens (these are bolts of grain sack). i think on my next visit i'll have to buy a small scrap as the current budget won't allow for anything else but it's all so gorgeous!

i could have moved into this booth. so much goodness. i dream of someday having enough wall space for an old motel sign (i am obsessed with old signage- see my previous post about that), and this top hat one would be amazing.

one of the many things i regretted not buying. it's a little shinier than i usually go for in my own home, but i love the facets. so perfectly on trend.

around 1PM i noticed that despite my best efforts to reapply the sunscreen, i was getting a serious sunburn and knew i should call it a day. i hadn't found everything i hoped to (or at least for the price i was hoping to), but i reminded myself that i live here now so i can go every month if i want to, plus my cart was totally full so i called the mister for a pick up.

i've been saving this since the Funky Junk Show last year, with this very day in mind.

i definitely put the old cart to the test and it passed with high marks.
when we got home he mentioned being amazed that i willingly stayed out in the heat for so long (i HATE hot weather and usually turn into a whiny baby if it's above 90), and reflecting on it i realized that i was having so much fun being perfectly in my element that i barely even noticed how hot i was. it was an amazing day. oh, and i found some really great things too- here the finds i fancied enough to take home...

as you might have guessed from the g&h logo- i love arrows. i couldn't pass these up- they even came with that amazingly weathered leather strap.

my latest obsession is black and white enamelware and there was an abundance of it. i controlled myself and just picked these three pieces. i love the little pot with the double handles and lid!

my tillandsia (or air plant) died in the move so i was excited when i found a booth selling a huge variety of them.

i was so pleased when i talked the vendor down on his price for this cool metal drawer set. it will hold regular sized paper perfectly so i'll be using it to sort invoices and such on my desk.

remember my newest collection- milk glass? i found some great additions. i especially love those bowls with the black stripe on them. now that i know Anchor Hocking made a pattern like that i'll be on the hunt for more!

one of my favorite moments was visiting the Oh Hello Friend booth and meeting Nick, Danni's mister! unfortunately Danni was out visiting other booths when i was there and i didn't have time to go back to meet her, but i did pick up some great pieces from them. i've been looking for a stamp carousel for the longest time and this one is in great shape to boot!

i was hoping to find some vintage advertising from LA, so this old nut crate was a great score!  Danni had a lot of great items, including her handmade goods. if you haven't been to the Oh Hello Friend blog before, i encourage you to visit!

in addition to that crazy good haul, i also picked up a tall wire shelf that folds up. it will make the perfect home for our stereo and record player. i'll share photos of it once it's all set up.

i hope that everyone who enjoys hunting for vintage has the chance to check out the Rose Bowl at least once. if you do happen to make it, here are a few tips to make your visit as awesome as possible...

-spend the extra $2 for the express admission. i arrived just after 8am and had about 2 hours to browse in peace until it got busy. they offer even earlier admission but 8 seemed about perfect as most vendors were set up or still setting up, but there wasn't a crowd.

-bring your own water. i brought two of my reusable bottles that i filled and chilled overnight and was glad i did. they sell bottled water, but it's a steep $5.

-if you have a cart or wagon, bring it. if you don't have one they rent them there and your shoulders will thank you. i carried both my purchases and my supplies (water, sunscreen, etc) in the cart, and then just wore a small (light) purse with a long strap for my money, tape measure and business cards.

-dress comfortably. i wore a light cotton batik dress with cotton leggings and comfortable sandals and was pretty set for the day. layers are also helpful, especially if you start early in the morning and will be there through the afternoon.

-wear sunscreen, and remember to reapply. you may also want a big brimmed hat. i didn't have one and wished i had- i got sunburned pretty badly on my shoulders.

- if you'll be more than a few hours you might want to bring some snacks or a lunch. they do have food vendors but again, the prices are pretty steep.

-if you're bringing children, use the smallest stroller you have. most booths can't accomodate strollers or carts, so you have to leave them just outside the booth.

- like i mentioned earlier- if you're looking for vintage- go left after entering the gate. seriously- go left until you can't go any further. you'll pass over a bridge that leads you to the very edge of the vintage section. i started here and worked my way back to the section closer to the main gate.

- don't be afraid to bargain. i don't think i payed the marked price for a single thing all day. if you're not sure how to bargain a great starting place is just to ask 'can you do any better on this price?' or 'what's your best deal on this?'. every vendor i bargained with was very nice about it- even if they couldn't give me a better deal. another good method if you're planning to buy more than one of something is to ask if they can give you a deal if buy all of them- i scored that entire stack of small plates for $6 even though she originally told me $2 each. many vendors don't have marked prices, so you'll have to ask for a price. if you can't pay what they quote you, or want a better deal, most vendors will go down- especially if you start to walk away. remember that vendors don't want to pack this stuff up- they want to sell it so be bold and try to get a price you're comfortable with (within reason- you don't want to be insulting). it never hurts to ask.

-if you buy a large item most vendors will allow you come back and pick it up later. just write down where they are so you can find their booth again. they also have people who will deliver furniture to your vehicle for you- i think there is a fee for this service, but it's helpful if you're alone and buy something big or heavy.

if you're planning a visit to the Rose Bowl Flea Market- let me know if you have any questions- i'm happy to help if i can.

happy weekend y'all. i hope it's a great one! oh, and don't forget- i'd love to share your very own finds, so email me for details if you have something you'd be willing to let me post. danae@gatherandhuntvintage.com.

finds to fancy

as many of you know by now, we are moving to southern California in 30 days or so (can't believe it's that few days already). of course, that means it's time to find an apartment. today, in the midst of hunting, i took a few minutes to just search using key words that sum up my dream apartment- 'vintage hardwood yard'. i took the price limit off and just let myself dream for a moment. this is what i found.

yes please. this one is just stunning, and perfect. hardwoods, big kitchen, private back yard, 2 bedrooms, and a fireplace, it's even in Pasadena, which is where we are hoping to find a place so the mister can be close to campus. dream. apartment. i fancy it very much. the price tag, well that's a little too fancy for our budget.

not to limit myself to just one dream apartment, i clicked on a few more and found another one...

not as stunning as the first, and much smaller, but still oh so charming. love the tile in the bathroom and the un-painted wood trim. it even come with a 'bonus' space off the backyard to use as a studio or storage and has fruit trees and tomato plants growing in the yard. unfortunately, the price tag is still a bit too rich for us.

for now i'll have to settle for just fancying these finds. but hopefully soon we'll find something we can actually call home. if you see anything out there- let me know.

happy friday everyone! hope you have a great weekend!

finds to fancy

a few weeks back i found this great little barrel handbag at an estate sale and thought i'd share it for today's finds to fancy...

it's not in perfect shape, but i think it's adorable- the leather is such a nice color and i love the brass latches. would you fancy a barrel handbag for yourself? here are a few cute ones...

tweed and leather from Lilies Valley Vintage
silver lame from Victoria Westbury
floral silk from Reboot Vintage
tooled leather from Tea Street Vintage
needlepoint carpet from J Forney 000
faux snakeskin from Circa 19
happy weekend everyone! i've got a baby shower to attend tomorrow and then a date with the mister planned for Sunday- i'm so looking forward to that! what are you up to? whatever you do, i hope you have a lovely time!

finds to fancy

it's set-up day for the Urban Craft Uprising show and my TeuxDeux list is growing by the minute. i'm so excited to do a show in Seattle- and so glad it all came together before we move away. i've got lots of wonderful goods loaded into the trailer right now, just waiting for you to come take them home!

before i head out to finish up last minute errands i wanted to share a few finds i fancy lately.

i have a thing for unusual lighting. i hate overhead lights and would probably fill our house with odd industrial lamps if the mister didn't help me keep it in check. (sometime i'll have to do a curated life post about our unusual lighting collection).

 from my collection

recently i found a few little lighting gems at estate sales.

this former incubator lamp needed a little re-wiring (it looked okay, but when i plugged it in the cloth cord caught on fire!), so i took it to Harold's Lighting, a Seattle area lighting store and restoration shop. they always do a great job and were even able to replace the cloth cord with an almost identical one. it works perfectly now!

i found this wire cage shade at an estate sale a few months back but it didn't have a socket cord to go with it. i did some searching and found DW Vintage, a Brooklyn based Etsy shop that makes vintage style socket cords at a reasonable price. the cord is well made and with a little ingenuity and one more trip to Harold's, it's all ready to be hung in someone's home.

these are both headed to the booth at Urban Craft Uprising, so if you're interested in them and live in Seattle, stop by and check them out!

i'm off to take care of a few things before this afternoon's big set up. i'll be back this evening with a little post all about the show!

finds to fancy

between my road trip and having lots of goods saved up already, i haven't been out on the hunt as much as usual these last few weeks. i did however, hit a few thrifts and a flea market while i was travelling and even went to an estate sale this morning, so i guess i'm getting back into the swing of things.

for today's finds to fancy i thought i'd share some of my recent favorites.

many of these items will be available for sale at the upcoming Urban Craft Uprising show. if you're near Seattle, you should definitely stop by and say hello!

i hope everyone has a lovely weekend. may you find lots of things to fancy yourself!

finds to fancy: late edition

how is it already Sunday evening? this past week, and really the entire month of May so far, has just flown by!

i realize that i skipped finds to fancy this last friday, so in an attempt to make up for it, here's a little peek at some of my fav finds from the week...

fun colors!
cameras! (that instamatic in front is exactly like my mom's)
party game in near perfect condition
love the instructions in that brass pill box
fiber art? check. seashells? check.  pastels? check.
classic 70's polaroid
tempted to keep this desk lamp for myself
i was just wishing i had some of these last week!
a new horse for my little collection
cool old darts with real feathers
a mini printing press
everyone loves these light cages

i didn't have much time to hunt this week (farm chicks prep is king these days), but i hit a few sales on friday and they yielded some good finds!

what did you find this past week? i'd love to see! you can also join me in playing along with Her Library Adventures in her weekly Flea Market Finds share-along! take a look at the fun finds over there, then share your own link!

happy weekending

i'm just about to jet out the door and hit the road. heading over to Yakima for a few days with the bestie- we're having a work/crafty weekend where we'll be making the backdrop for the booth at The Farm Chicks Show!

don't worry- i'll keep an eye out for rattlers!

of course, we'll also be checking out some estate sales, so in lieu of a regular finds to fancy post, see what we're finding by following along on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram

happy weekending to all of you!

finds to fancy

yesterday i spotted this sad looking blue case at an estate sale...

ever the optimist, i set my bag of other goodies down and opened the case up. expecting to find an ugly, broken typewriter inside (like most of the typewriters i find out here), i was completely floored to find this inside instead...

amazing! such a lovely color and it even had it's manual and the dust cover in addition to the case! i've never found one with it's dust cover intact!

i love it so much i want to keep it! i think i should probably let it go live with someone else though- i already have a cute grey one, and with a move coming up, this is no time to start another collection!

what have you found this week? i'd love if you'd share! as always, just email your finds to me at danae{at}gatherandhuntvintage{dot}com.

today i'm out on the hunt with the bestie over in her home base- Yakima, Washington. i'm excited to see what we find! if you want to keep tabs on what we're gathering, follow along on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram (my username is danaerolyn) or Instagrid for those without 'smart' phones.

i hope you all have a lovely weekend and happy hunting!

finds to fancy

happy friday everyone!

wow, it seems like forever since i've posted, even though i really only skipped a day! i hope you'll forgive me for the lack of a curated life this week- i was tending to the toddler daughter of some friends while they were busy having a new baby! to all you stay at home moms out there- i salute you- i was exhausted by the end of the day!

i've been out on hunt all morning and i found some fun things! i've got lots of prep to do so i can take things to the space at the Vintage Mall for the weekend, so today's post is a quick one.

remember the cool, red laundry hamper that Melissa shared in a finds to fancy back in February? well look at what i found today...

a blue one almost just like Melissa's! we have a knack for finding similar items, so it doesn't even really surprise me that i found one so much like her's. unfortunately for me, since i don't have a laundry room, i won't be keeping this one. that's good news for all of you who are planning on coming to The Farm Chicks Show though- since i'll be bringing it with me to the show!

what did you find this week? i'd love to share your very own finds to fancy- email me and we'll set it up!

finds to fancy

i know it's super late in the day, but i didn't have anything good to share this morning so i decided that instead of picking something less than awesome for finds to fancy, i'd wait and post after i hit the estate sales. here's what i fancy most from my finds today...

it's a glass battery jar! up until about the 1930's batteries consisted of conductive liquids and a few other components and were housed in large, usually rectangular, glass jars. i've been looking for one for awhile now, to use as a terrarium, and spotted this Pyrex one today. it even has little hand holds molded into the glass on the sides!

what have you found lately? i'd love to share it here! send me a message at danae{at}gatherandhuntvintage{dot}com and we'll talk!

finds to fancy

happy friday everyone!

i'm taking the day off from a finds to fancy post, so i can enjoy my time in California, but to tide you over, i'd love for you to check out a site i mentioned earlier this week...

{photo via My Favorite Find}
My Favorite Find, the new venture from The Farm Chicks' Serena Thompson, is like a 24/7 finds to fancy post! check it out today to see what others are finding, and even add your own (but make sure to share them with me too!).

i know you'll love it!

i'll see you all next, week, when i'm back in Seattle! have a great weekend- hope you find lots of good stuff out there !

finds to fancy

i don't often do outfit posts, but i do love fashion, especially vintage fashion. now, vintage clothing that fits can be a little tricky to find when you're larger than a size 14 (like my 18/20 sized self), and i often find myself discouraged and tempted to just stop looking for vintage clothes for myself. every now and then though, i hit a hot streak- finding fun things that actually fit! i think i'm on a hot streak this month and thought i'd share some of my finds today! i hope that those of you who have a hard time finding vintage in your size will be inspired to keep looking- you never know when your very own hot streak is gonna hit!

sweater: Red Light vintage, shorts and shoes: thrifted vintage

love the colors of the embroidery!

can you tell i'm ready for spring? despite some freak late-winter snow storms, we've had a number of unseasonably sunny days in Seattle, which has kicked my spring fever into overdrive! there are some cherry blossom trees outside our building, and i've been checking on them every day to see if today will be the day they bloom- i don't want to miss it! come on spring!

blouse, skirt, and shoes: thrifted vintage

haven't tied a shirt up since i was in grade school- it's perfect for this outfit though!

the little gold tone clips are removable
add the fact that we're taking a short trip to southern California next week (more on that next Monday) to my rabid spring fever and i'm practically leaving the house in shorts and sandals, even though the temps have only been in the 40's!

dress and sandals: thrifted vintage, belt: target

i don't think these sandals have ever been worn!

i'm definitely packing these outfits for our trip next week! maybe i can even get the mister to take some photos so i can do a proper outfit post (like with a person inside the clothes and everything!). can't hardly wait to get down to sunny SoCal!

what have you found this week? i'd love to share your finds on an upcoming finds to fancy- just email me at danae{at}gatherandhuntvintage{dot}com!

today's the day! the bestie and i get to hit some estate sales together! it's been a very, very long time since we've done that and i am so excited!

since we'll be on the road all day (heading out to the first sale at 6:30am) i thought i'd try something a little different for this week's finds to fancy post- we're going live!

kind of love those early morning drives in the truck- it can be so beautiful out there!

all day long i'll be snapping instagram shots of what we're gathering and you can follow along three different ways:

one. instagram. if you're an instagram user- follow me! my username is danaerolyn. if you don't have an iphone or aren't an instagram user, you can still follow via my instagrid.

two/three. twitter/facebook. i'll be sharing today's shots on both the gather and hunt facebook page and twitter account. if you don't already 'like' the g&h facebook page- i'd love for you to click that little button today! i've also been having a lot of fun interacting with readers over on twitter, so feel free to 'follow' me as well!

now if you don't really do the social media thing- no worries- i'll post all the photos here later!

okay, ready? let's head out on the hunt! see you on the road!

ha ha- a very flattering shot of me!
oh, and as always- i want to see your finds! email them to me at danae{at}gatherandhuntvintage{dot}com so i can share them here on a future friday!
